Pop Radio targets Generation X Adults in the 25-54 demo, with a core of Adults 25-44.
Gen X adults were born between 1961 and 1981 and grew up in the 70s and 80s listening to Top 40 and Rock music. What once was "hard" and "cutting edge" is now quite tolerable, and these listeners yearn for the sound of their formative years. Top 40 of the past, included hits from several music genres -- which is what Pop Radio brings back. No more button pushing.
In terms of new music, the artists of the 90s and Now on Pop Radio reflect a sound and style that is influenced by the artists of the 70s and 80s.
